When I heard about superhero ANT MAN, I must confess that I was amused. What will be his super powers? Walking in line with the other ants for crying out loud?! Or the more obvious one of lifting something which is 50 times heavier than your body weight ? Don't we already have the Incredible Hulk for that and boy o' boy isn't he himself overwhelming already? Anyway the movie turns that around for you. One needs to appreciate that we need heroes in all freaking sizes.
Now, coming to the storyline. Well this being the genesis tale of the superhero it has the that element which can be trusted blindly. You cannot deny the fact the we love listening to how they get to become what they are. We love the initial misadventures, fascinating revelations and sublime transformations. If you think about it, the first movie of a superhero reboot is always special to us. It's because this is the closest they get to the reality and to us. Remember "Batman Begins", that would always and always remain special. And though this is the first movie of ANT MAN but still you would feel that it is a reboot. That is because one man retires from duty and another takes over. It is like RISES when the old Batman is looking for someone to take over.
More on the plot front, there is no super villain in this case yet there is. The greatest enemy that we face is our self and that is exactly the point put up by the black shades in the movie. Coming to the casting, the return of Michael Douglas after long is powerful and Paul Rudd as ANT MAN is perfect as he the cutest not-so-tall actor around. Others have played their parts and special mention for Evangeline Lily and Michael Pena.
The witty interchanges between Paul Rudd and others keeps you giggling and pace of the movie do not allow room for look overs. The graphics coming from Marvel Studios cannot be disappointing and this fact ergo remains undisputed. The linkages with the Avengers are exciting and the cameo by Falcon is delicious for the hardcore Avengers fans. Overall, its a different perspective on a different plain altogether. Just so that we appreciate the value of the smallest of things around us. Definitely worth a watch for the Superhero cult like me.
And to conclude, a fun fact for those who still think ANT MAN idea is so cheesy, "The total biomass of all the ants on earth is nearly equal to that of humans!" :D
