Drishyam * * *

My rating: 3/5

Another adopted screenplay from the south they said. But should that stop you? "No" I would tell you. "Maybe" I will tell you if you have seen the original as the kick is only in the climax. And there in, as the part would tell us, lies the romp. Yes yes, borrowing few lines from the "Inside man" but totally fits here.

So there are these situations in our lives when we have not wronged. Or rather we didn't intend to wrong. But shit happens. And when that unintentional wrong happens, are we guilty? Should be jeopardise our lives, our dear ones just for the sake of objective morality? Difficult questions these are, which in fact is the underlying theme of the movie.

Vijay salgaonkar played by Ajay Devgn is a simple man who loves his family like anything and is the local cable guy who loves watching movie all night day long. Testimony to this assertion is the fact that he stays back at his office watching movies even when his wife played by "Shriya Saran" waits back home. I mean come on man! Besides her, he has two daughters of which the elder one is adopted. He found her nears the bins where some heartless person dumped her.

This elder girl, somehow gets blackmailed by this boy she recently met on a trip. He tries to leverage whatever collateral he has to exploit the girl. The turn of events become ugly and the boy dies somehow. She didn't intend to. Now, this boy is the son of some big police officer and the whole family would be screwed if the truth comes out. Here comes the moral dilemma. But Vijay is very clear on his stand. They all should behave as if they don't a thing about it. The movie is about how his knowledge from watching all episodes of Crime patrol helps him to fool the Investigation team and counter every move of the Police. Brilliantly portrayed by the director have to confess coupled with even brilliant performances from Ajay Devgn and Tabu. The only problem is they stretch it a tad too far but the Climax is the saving grace. Something like How to get away with murder. Only that it wan't murder.

Anyway, entertaining and intriguing. Worth a watch.
